On this month’s Creator Spotlight, “Actin’ Up with Mel and Gigi Giraffe” creator and star Mel Gillespie goes under the microscope to dish on how it all got started, what it’s like to produce an animated children’s show with a talking giraffe, and what drives her to do what she does. There may even be a surprise interview with the snow’s four-legged co-star, and suffice it to say, she does not hold back. This short program is airing all around the MATV schedule.
World champion competitive power-lifter Kelsey McCarthy is the newest guest on “Broad Appeal.” Although she travels the globe setting records and going up against the strongest women in the world, she is a true local, having grown up in Quincy, with her day job working as a physical therapist at Elliott Physical Therapy. She talks about her journey from playing soccer for Northeastern University to jumping into competitive lifting, as well as balancing life with competing and training at the highest possible level. This interview is currently airing Tuesdays at 8 p.m. and Thursdays at 9 a.m. on the Public channel (Comcast 9/RCN 13).
Dealing with inconsolable grief; finding the joy in the moment during seemingly hopeless times; and ultimately triumphing through tragedy: these are among the themes of a new episode of “Talk of the Town,” where host Brian Kelley speaks to Kari McHugh about her late son, Michael, his fight against cancer, and the ways in which they have been able to transcend his loss through community and perseverance. This program is currently airing at 9 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights on the Public channel.
There’s a whole lot of hype out there about “Avenger’s: Endgame” and the return of “Game of Thrones,” but there’s also a whole lot else to watch when you’re done with those. Eileen Maher is back with another episode of “Reel Talk” to help you navigate those waters, with cinema reviews of “Dumbo,” “Us,” “Gloria Bell” and “The Chaperone,” plus Netflix show “Santa Clarita Diet.” Check it out when it airs Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights at 8 p.m. on the Public channel.
Warm weather means lounging under a tree with a good book, and lots of engaging events at the Milton Public Library. Some truly unique programs are scheduled for May, including a Children’s Room garden party where kids can plant pizza ingredients, as well as Art Week in the adult events. Tune in for this and more when “The Page Turner” library update airs Monday and Wednesday mornings at 7 a.m. as well as Tuesday evenings at 7 p.m., all on the Public channel.
Resident Bill Lane worked for 35 years for the classic East Coast restaurant and ice cream chain Friendly’s, starting as a trainee and eventually retiring as Vice President of Operations, Training, Franchising and Administration.
