Legislative Update

From Michael Lynch, MATV Executive Director
Re: Contract Negotiations between Comcast and the Town of Milton

“The license between Comcast and the Town of Milton is up for renewal in October of this year. This license dictates how Comcast delivers TV programming to its subscribers, how Comcast will handle service calls and complaints, the Institutional Network (INET) which is the lifeline that connects all town buildings including the schools, and PEG (public, education, and government) TV.

The town is in the ascertainment process, and so far has had one public hearing. Many residents attended and voiced their support for the continuation and increase of PEG funding. Requests for High Definition channels and programs appearing in the Electronic Programming Guide were heard. Town Department heads came to request that the INET remain as it is today.

The negotiation process between the Town of Milton and Comcast has been smooth, and both sides are working well together to reach a final agreement. Another hearing may be scheduled in the upcoming months; if so residents will be notified.”
