It’s hosta time on “The Garden Path.” The hardy, green, low-lying hosta plant is a staple in many backyard gardens. In this episode, Christine Paxhia is joined by a former president of the New England Hosta Society to discuss the many varieties of this species, as well as a local gardening pro who shows how to transplant a hosta safely. The Sciencetellers are the latest act to come to the stage of the Library Children’s Hour. These wacky performers take the stuff that’s in the textbooks and bring it to life in front of a live audience with hands-on demonstrations and all kinds of surprising miracles of science. Take a look when this program airs at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays on the Public channel (Comcast 11/RCN 13).
Gigi is back from summer camp and ready for more fun with her buddy Mel and the whole Kid Crew. In this new episode of “Acting Up with Mel and Gigi Giraffe,” Gigi learns all about China and its culture, while the kids get a crash-course in how to make hats, animals and more out of balloons. Get in on all the fun when this program airs seven days a week at 3:30 p.m., and Monday through Thursday in the morning at 7:30 a.m., all on the Public channel (Comcast 9/RCN 13).
Since 1971, the Gloucester Clog and Hornpipe Society has been a staple among folk music in New England. The group’s co-founder Owen Hartford, who is a Milton resident, recently created a feature-length documentary chronicling the life of this band whose myriad members play instruments as distinctive as bones, spoons, bodhran, washtub bass and pogocello. MATV is pleased to air this look back at a part of New England’s musical legacy on Tuesday evenings at 8:30 p.m. on the Public channel (Comcast 9/RCN 13).
Fuller Talks is new this week, and the roundtable takes a look at a number of issues across the political spectrum, on scales ranging from global to municipal. Raising the alcohol tax in town, what the state recreational marijuana tax will be and the fate of the United States’ nuclear treaty with Iran are all on the table, along with a number of other topics.
