Milton came together to honor its veterans of the U.S. Armed Services in many ways this past Veterans Day weekend, and MATV is currently broadcasting two of these events:
-Playing seven days a week at noon on the Government channel (Comcast 8/RCN 3) is the 2017 Veterans Day Observance at Town Hall, with a focus this year on those who served in the Vietnam War.
-Immediately following this program at 1 p.m., also seven days a week, is the annual Cunningham/Collicot Veterans Day Ceremony, which includes essays read by students and featured speaker Dr. Michael Fitzsimons of Massachusetts General Hospital, a former longtime military doctor.
A fun new episode of “It’s All Write with Suzette” premieres this week, with guest Randy Ross, a writer and performer whose newly-published first novel, “God Bless Cambodia,” follows a perpetually single protagonist around the world on his search for love and fulfillment. This episode is full of laughs and insight. It’s currently playing on the Public channel (Comcast 9/RCN 13) Wednesdays at 7 p.m. and Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at 8:30 p.m.
Musician Diane Taraz sings and plays authentic music from the Revolutionary War at the Milton Public Library, as the Milton Historical Society presents “Songs of the Revolution.” Traditional instruments and garb are just one part of this multifaceted show, which features not just the tunes that were played during the birth of our nation but also the stories behind them. This program is currently airing on Monday evenings at 5 p.m. on the Public channel (Comcast 9/RCN 13).
Another legendary composer of the 20th Century comes to life in a new episode of “The Great American Songbook” that takes a look at the career and craft of Hoagy Carmichael. Host and vocalist Jeff Stoodt is joined by his backing jazz band and guest singers, performing selected pieces from the Carmichael catalogue while also providing analysis and historical context. Tune in for this musical journey as it airs at 5 p.m. Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, as well as 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday evenings, all on the Public channel (Comcast 9/RCN 13).
