Kicking off the “Hamilton”-themed library programming for Milton Reads month, Boston Conservatory Associate Professor or Theater Chris Caggiano recently delivered a lecture that looks at the history of American musical theater, using the Broadway smash hit “Hamilton” as a jumping-off point, with a look at the influence that particular work has had on the genre. UMass Boston Professor of History Julie Winch helped close out Black History Month at the library with a talk about an often overlooked area of African-American history that is featured in her book “Between Slavery and Freedom: Free People of Color in America from Settlement to the Civil War.” In this lecture, she focuses in on her research about one man in particular, following him through military service and across the Atlantic Ocean to a British prison, touching on many important topics of history and culture along the way. Turn to the Public channel during the Monday Forum at 5 p.m. for this presentation.
