The John Kordalewski Jazz Quintet recently performed at the public library, offering “A Celebration of African American Composers” that featured a sampling of musicians who made their mark as both composers and improvisers, including Thelonious Monk, Tadd Dameron, Cedar Watson, Makanda Ken McIntyre, Bill Barron and John Stubblefield. by. Piano, trombone, tenor saxophone, bass and drums filled the Keys Room for this program that is currently airing during Music Thursday at 6:30 p.m. on the Public channel.
“Underage Drinking Prevention: Practical Parenting Facts and Tips for ‘The Talk’ and Much More” was the title of a talk recently delivered by Tufts University School of Medicine Professor Margie Skeer at a meeting of the Milton Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition. Parents will learn about a number of common misconceptions regarding underage drinking and talking to their children about alcohol use, as well as many other useful tips and pieces of information. This program is currently airing seven days a week at 5 p.m. on the Education channel.
A new installment of “The Great American Songbook” takes a look back at a seminal year in music: 1968. Host Jeff Stoodt recalls some of his favorites from that heady time, while he is joined in the studio by local band Lower Falls, comprising Geoff Shaw, Kevin Dambruch, Adam Winkler and Gary Gardiner, along with musicians Franc Graham, Claudia Wellington, Dan Deleo, Jeremy Blanchard and Steve Cousineau. This program is currently airing at 5 p.m. Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, as well as 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday evenings, all on the Public channel.
Musician and storyteller Eshu Bumpus brought his magical tales to the library recently, weaving a variety of African, African-American and world folktales with music, humor and mystery. Hear a new take on the Tortoise and the Hare, find out how the cat learned to purr and join in some sing-and-dance-alongs when this program airs during the Library Children’s Hour every Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 2:30 p.m. on the Public channel.
It’s a “Hamilton” takeover at the Milton Public Library this month, as Milton Reads events fill up the schedule. In the March library update, you can learn the details of these programs inspired by the book that accompanies Lin Manuel Miranda’s smash hit musical, as well as get the the lowdown on everything else going on at the library. The “Page Turner” is currently airing Monday and Wednesday mornings at 7 a.m. as well as Tuesday evenings at 7 p.m., all on the Public channel.
